What is an arm lift?
An arm lift is a plastic surgery used to remove excess fat and skin that may reside on the upper arm. While it can be related to significant weight loss or gain, it can also occur due to the natural process of aging as increased skin laxity occurs. Many patients want to tighten this area for better contours and shape, which can be done with the arm lift surgery.
How is an arm lift performed?
During the arm lift surgery, incisions are made in inconspicuous areas to reduce noticeable scarring after the procedure, such as inside of the arm or in the underarm area. Liposuction is used to remove excess fat in the area, and may be the only requirement to achieve results. For patients with significant amounts of fat and skin, sections of the skin may be removed and sutured to resolve sagging and tighten the upper arm area. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and patients will need to schedule recovery time off of work and certain activities such as exercise to facilitate faster healing and reduce the risk of complications such as infection. Patients will often need to avoid strenuous upper body lifting and activity for several weeks until they receive the okay from their doctor to become more active.
