Reconstructive / Dog Bite

I feel compelled to write a letter in order to share with the community my excellent experience with Dr. H. Sasson at NSLIJ Hospital. In the late hours of a Sunday in January, I incurred a dog bite to the face. I was assured by the staff in the hospital ER that I would be receiving care from the best plastic surgeon on Long Island. I was in severe pain and shock not knowing what exactly had happened. Dr. Sasson was so down to earth. He explained my condition, and went through all possible solutions. Although he wasn’t my doctor he treated me like I was his longest and only patient. He was kind and had a wonderful “bed-side” manner. He showed up promptly, introduced himself to myself and my family and then went to work. Because of the extensive amount of injuries I incurred, Dr. Sasson explained to my family that I might require more than one surgery. Dr. Sasson also decided that because the loss of tissue and blood was so great he had no choice but to operate in the ER. After two plus hours of reconstructive surgery and over five hundred sutures, I was admitted into the hospital. Throughout the whole procedure Dr. Sasson allowed my family and friends to stay at my bedside holding my hand; as he meticulously sutured my face back together. I was admitted into the hospital for three days, while there, Dr. Sasson came and visited me every day. Upon seeing myself for the first time, although terrified; I knew THIS MAN WAS GIFTED. It has been five years since the accident; I have undergone numerous procedures, all with Dr. Sasson. People who did not know me prior to the accident, don’t believe me when I explain to them the severity of it. My scars are so minimal, other plastic surgeons have commented on how good of a job Dr. Sasson had done. Although I experienced a very traumatic event I consider myself so very lucky having met Dr. Sasson, he is not only amazing at his profession but a wonderful, kind hearted person, I have stayed in touch over the years and I could not wait for him see wedding photos this past year. Dr. Sasson, I don’t know the exact moment you decided to become plastic surgeon, but…I’m so very glad that you did. Every day now, as I look in the mirror, I can see the results of your work…and I will never be able to tell you how thankful I am to you for the face that reflects back at me. -Megan
